Contemporary art has a young mind, but reaches very few young people. Uppsala samtidskonst would like to change that fact. Art is one of man’s most natural ways of expression and that is why it is important for all people to have the same access to art. Everybody should have the same right to participate in the making of art and experiencing art and everyone should be able to have a part in deciding what art is and what it means.

Uppsala samtidskonst organises public events – art exhibitions and art happenings – as well as members’ events, where the creativity of the individual members is the main focal point. Our main target group is young people – those of you born in the seventies, eighties and nineties. We would like to reach those of you who never set foot in an art exhibition hall and who have not felt that art addresses you. At the same time we provide a forum for those of you who have ideas and projects that long for their audience, but who have not yet found ways to go about it.

Being a member of Uppsala samtidskonst makes it easier for young people interested in art to form networks and realise art projects. No participant is too much of a beginner, nor too established to take part. We collaborate with the established art society and hope to be a part of creating many unexpected creative encounters in the future: both between young and more experienced artists – and between new art and a new, more mixed audience.

Uppsala samtidskonst aims to cooperate with municipalities in the area, the county council, cultural institutions and the business world in order to do as professional work as possible. We start in the Uppsala area, but the long term goal is that the quality of Uppsala samtidskonst’s work will be so high that it becomes well known all throughout the country. We want to show young people that contemporary art concerns and moves us all right here, right now.
Uppsala samtidskonst, Uppsala Contemporary Art, is a non-profit, non-political art association, founded in Uppsala in 2006.
